THE “ČAIR” SWIMMING POOL

It is located within the park “Čair”, and was built in 1978 according to the designs of the Niš architects Aleksandar Buđevac and Ljupka Kovačević.

The architecture of the building is cubist, with characteristic blue tin sheets, concrete and glass, with well-designed functions. It successfully serves its function of a swimming and recreational space.  It contains a closed Olympic size, recreational and children’s swimming pool, open-air sport facilities, a sunbathing terrace, fitness center area on the gallery and a bowling alley. The structure of the building is characteristic for its large-span steel lattice beams, which can be seen in the interior over the Olympic size swimming pool with spectator stands.

Recently, the seating capacity was expanded by the construction of an additional Olympic size and children’s swimming pool, and a larger sunbathing terrace.

The original design of the structure was awarded with the October Sports Prize of Niš in 1978.
