THE ČAVDAREVIĆ VILLA

It is located in the immediate vicinity of the Republike Square (or the Square of the Republic). It was built in 1937 by the mechanical engineer Milorad Čavdarević from Niš, who held the office of the president of the Municipality of Niš at one time before WWII. The name of the architect is unknown.

In terms of space, it is a standalone family house, dominating its park environment. It consists of a ground floor and upper floor. The designer used the elements and details of the Serbian building tradition in its formation, so the edifice comprises wide eaves, slender chimneys with characteristic caps and rows of arcades, combining them with the elements of Byzantine architecture, such as the capitals of columns in the form of baskets. The railings resembling Renaissance balustrades are also interesting, with small arcades and balusters which have small capitals, also in the form of baskets.

The function of the villa did not change, so it is still strictly a residential building.
