This residential-office building in Voždova Street was built for Momčilo Janković, a lawyer from Niš, in 1937. It was designed by the architect Branislav Kojić, a professor from Belgrade, one of several Serbian architects who in 1928 formed the GAMP group, which had the goal of “propagating contemporary principles in architecture and the applied arts”.
The building is designed in the spirit of the early Moderne style in architecture and is fully preserved. The building was built in two phases: the part oriented towards Voždova Street was built first, and the annex was built in the second phase. Out of almost all the other buildings constructed in Niš in this period, which were compromises between the old and new, this work stands out because of the complete implementation of Modernist ideas, standing equal to other significant works of art of this renowned Serbian architect.
The building retains its residential function, as well as the shops on the ground level.
