On the corner of Vožda Karađorđa and Strahinjića Bana streets, on the same location where a ground-level building with the inscription “Kino Evropa” (or the Europe theatre) once stood, we find one of the larger and more significant administrative buildings in the strict city center, built in 1958.
In the extensive opus of the Niš architect Branislav Savić, this is probably the most important creation. The peaceful and monotonous body of buildings along Voždova Street was challenged by the dynamic recession of the corner mass, both in terms of depth and height, with a pronounced mezzanine and expert usage of the top floor elements, characteristic of the late Moderne style of architecture – colonnades in the attic, undulating roof panels and a different rhythm of window openings. It was connected to the Main Post Office building, fully observing the cornice height.
The building did not undergo any interventions, and it is still in good condition, more than fifty years after construction.
