THE TEOKAREVIĆ VILLA

The edifice was built in 1938 by the famous industrialists and owners of several textile factories in Serbia, the Teokarević family, as an exclusive residential building. It is very probable that it was built according to an idea of the famous Belgrade architect of Russian origin, Grigorije Samojlov, and in accordance with the desires of the owners, because in the town of Vučje there is a very similar villa which is known to have been built according to the desires of the Teokarević family, and based on concept of this architect, who was their personal friend.

In terms of architecture, this villa has all the characteristics of the medieval “Alpine house” made of post-and-pan, with a timber skeleton, such as were made in Western Europe in medieval times. The beams, columns and other timber structural elements on the floor were intentionally left outside, not plastered. The ground floor is made of masonry, with effectively projecting individual pieces of dressed stone. Such houses are specific due to the high gradient of their roof planes, which is not common for this area, and the roof also features a garret with decorative high chimneys.

The use of this villa never changed, and it is still being used as a residential building.
