THE HEALTH CENTER

The health center building was built in 1978. The designers were Mirjana Jovanović and Svetislav Marković.

It belongs to the International Style, dominant in the architecture of Niš starting from the 1960’s. The structure is made of reinforced concrete, with vertical communications which have an infill made of bricks visible in the interior, and a façade  membrane made of panels produced by the Macedonian company “Poliplast” Struga. They were designed by the Skopje architect Aleksandar Nikoljski.

The building functions as a health center with several organizational units, and a number of entrances and vertical communications. The form of the ground level and mezzanine, above which rises the prismatic five-story volume with a pronounced horizontal accent, is skillfully framed by a dark vertical line, which is visible from the narrower side. The façade surfaces have window openings of the same size, which repeat in the same rhythm. In the interior, the system of lightweight partition walls produced by the Niš company “Nissal” was used.

The building is situated in an open space, with a park exterior, and it still serves its original function.
