AIRPORT NIŠ

The airport of Niš is the third airport in Serbia in terms of size and number of passengers. It is located in the north-west part of the city, 4 km away from the center. It was designed by the Niš architect Aleksandar Buđevac, and was built in 1985.

The airport area, which obtained the status of an international airport in 1986, has a 2500-meter long runway, 290 meter-long taxi way and a platform with four self-maneuvering parking positions, as well as a terminal building with a large parking space in front of it, and a bus terminal.

The airport building-terminal is characterized by the implementation of prefabricated sheet metal and glass in the frame, and a reinforced concrete structure. The building itself has a simple rectangular form whose volume was gradually reduced from the ground level to the top of the structure. Thus the upper section, formed by the elongated crimson tin sheets of the building, reminds the onlooker of a stylized garret roof, which was a popular feature among designers in the architecture of Niš in the 1980’s.
