ĐOKA JOVANOVIĆ’S CHARITABLE FOUNDATION

This representative palace is situated in the center of the city. It was built for the famous property owner and benefactor, a man of many endowments, Đorđe Jovanović, in the period between 1927 and 1932, following the designs of the Belgrade architect Krehlik Jelinek.

It consists of a ground floor, two floors and a garret. The main façade is of extremely high quality, made of artificial stone in the spirit of European traditionalism, with a central projecting façade  featuring elements of Neo-Baroque, such as semi-circular balconies with balustrades, columns with bases and capitals at the level of the first and second floors, an architrave, parapet and floor cornices, of which the top cornice is particularly profusely profiled. There is also some shallow decoration and some plant motifs.

The palace was a residential building until WWII, and after the war it was nationalized and used for different purposes. It now houses city and state institutions.
