As one of the most beautiful and certainly most representative buildings, it was built in the center of the city of Niš, on the location of the former Hafiz-Pasha’s residence, on the corner of Ulica 7. juli (7th July Street) and Strahinjića Bana Street, next to the city park. It was built in 1937, according to the designs of the Belgrade architect Aleksandar Sekulić. The owner of the hotel and the investor is the famous Niš merchant Živko Stojiljković, who was among one of the first people to own automatic mills in Serbia.
This is the first public building with all the characteristics of the early Moderne style of architecture, and it is the first modern hotel in Niš. The building has all the characteristics of Modernism in terms of the volume of detail, with the exception that the rounded section is not on the corner of two streets, but is oriented towards the city center. The main façade front along with the rooms faces the park and the Fortress. The designer skillfully accentuated the function of the restaurant and public rooms on the ground level and the mezzanine, employing a different finish of the façade. Another point of interest are the mobile portals, which when lifted to the mezzanine level, allow a direct link between the restaurant hall, the coffee-house and terrace and the nearby park.
Unfortunately, the building, which still retains its original function, is entirely disused.
Since 2011, the hotel has been, due to its outstanding architectonic and historical values, on the list of the buildings of the Docomomo Serbia organization, which deals with the documentation and conservation of buildings built in the Moderne style of architecture all over the world.
