The building was erected as an annex of the existing building of the Faculty of Medicine built in 1948. It was designed by the architects Aleksandar Milojković and Marko Nikolić, and construction was completed in 2010.
Its functional organization, in response to the complex requirements of the investor, are reflected in the formation of the building. The clearly defined program units are accommodated in separate volumes. The larger volume, the white one, which is on its northwest side connected via a glazed staircase vertical to the existing building and conforms with its width, houses a spacious entry hall, auditoriums and offices for the lecturers and associates. In the lower, darker volume, which extends deeper into the lot, there is a center for biomedical research and amphitheaters. The dark and the light volume are connected via transparent sections behind which we find ante-rooms, halls and vertical communications. The glazing of the ground level helps to bring in the lightweight element to the compact mass of the volume, and also helps to create the illusion that the volume hovers over the access square. According to its formal characteristics, the building is closest to the new model of High-tech architecture.
For this building, the authors won the annual Prize of the Union of Architects of Serbia for the most successful creation in the field of architecture in 2010. The design was awarded the Grand Prix of the Triennial of Architecture of Niš in 2012.
