The Tobacco Factory building is located in the northwest part of Niš (the municipality “Crveni Krst” or the Red Cross). The building was built from 1926 to 1930, according to the designs of the Belgrade University professor – architect Đorđe Mijović.
The history of the Tobacco Factory of Niš begins in 1911 on the location known locally as “Stari Monopol” (or what was originally known as the old tobacco processing facility), and the factory was moved to the present day location due to insufficient space and capacity. Since the move and the beginning of construction in the complex of the present day Tobacco Factory, several buildings were constructed, which ranks the Tobacco Factory among the giants of this industry.
As one of the first more contemporary industrial buildings in Niš, it was designed in the spirit of eclecticism, with a serene monumental architecture of simple forms.
Nowadays, the Tobacco Factory continues to exist, used for the same purpose, but with changed ownership (it is now under the ownership of the Philip Morris Company).
