It is situated in Vožda Karađorđa Street, between the Prvomajska, Todora Milovanovića and Dobrila Trajković streets. It was established in 1889. Initially, it was strictly a boy’s school, but after several years the enrollment of girls was also allowed. The name of the school was often changed. At first it was “the school at Stambol-gate“, and later it was “the school on Pirot Street”, and then the “school on Vožd Street”.
It was built as an eclectic ground-level building, but it was extended several time because of the increase in student population – in 1936, then in 1958 and 1976. The renovation of the façade in 2005 provided the present-day appearance of the school, with the addition of the shallow façade plastics, like the one existing at the ground floor façade, to the extended floor façade.
This school was attended by some of the famous citizens of Niš – the poet Branko Miljković, the handball national team player and coach Zoran Tuta Živković, singer Vladimir Savčić Čobi, volleyball national team member Ivan Miljković and others.
